People always talk about how there are so many bad things going on around the world, in our country, in our community, but then say there is nothing they can do about them. Sometimes, this is the case, but it was outstanding to see the number of people who made excuses to get out of the blood drive yesterday. One donation could save three lives. Ten minutes of discomfort for you could mean life or death for three people who need your blood more than you do. And so many people chickened out. About 15% of these people had viable excuses, but the other 85%, please. If you aren't going to give blood, fine. But don't fool yourself thinking it was out of your control.
I gave blood. And I was so scared. Especially when the girl lying next to me started hyperventilating, but in the end, it felt really good to do that. Really good. I did my part. At least for this week.
